The Mastersizer 2000 particle size analyzer has been developed to meet industry's growing need for global comparability of results, traceability, regulatory compliance, and efficiency in the laboratory. In introducing the Mastersizer 2000 particle size analyzer, Malvern has advanced particle size analysis to the point where it is now a simple, straightforward and routine task.

	Accuracy and Reproducibility Accuracy: ± 1% on the Dv50 using the Malvern Quality Audit Standard. Instrument-to-instrument reproducibility: Better than 1% RSD on the Dv50 using the Malvern Quality Audit Standard.
	Assured reproducibility Software-driven SOPs eliminate user variability and enable global method transfer. All measurement parameters are automatically embedded in the result files and can be critically reviewed by e-mail recipients. Measurements can be replicated by following the same SOP.
	Broad measuring range Measures materials from 0.02µm to 2000µm.

Summary

The key to quality particle size measurement is the ability to present a well-dispersed sample to the instrument optics at an appropriate concentration with a minimum of sample bias. Efficient sample dispersion is essential for achieving optimum measurement. The Mastersizer 2000 user can choose from a variety of sample dispersion units for both wet and dry measurement modes that are designed to meet this requirement in full.

Many materials need to be measured in a wet dispersion. These include materials that are used wet in the manufacturing process, sticky materials such as clay or kaolinite, or materials that have a tendency to agglomerate when dry, such as titanium dioxide.

For materials that are used and produced dry in the manufacturing process, such as cement, powder coatings, pharmaceuticals and micronized powders, dry measurement is preferable.

The Mastersizer 2000 has the flexibility to allow wet and dry measurements to be made in rapid succession, as well as enabling the user to change rapidly from aqueous to solvent based dispersions.
